Caribbean Wedding of Ashley and David in the Beautiful Cayman Islands | Grand Old House

April 6, 2015

Venue: Grand Old House

Cake: Lori-Ann – The Cake Shop

DJ: Chris Jackson: Wacko Jacko’s Funky Tunes

Dress Designer: Pebbles Bridal Woodland Hills, CA

Flowers: Celebrations – Dora

Grand Old House was the venue for the wedding of Ashley and David. The bride looked amazing and with the help of her friend Sara  this wedding was just lovely. Both David and Ashley live in the USA where David is the Head swimming coach and CEO of Team Santa Monica. Coach Dave was actually brought to the Cayman Islands a few years ago to coach the current swimming team. No swimmer in the Cayman Islands had ever competed in the Olympics before Coach David started working with our young swimmers. He was successful and took Caymans first Olympic Swimmer to represent the Cayman Islands. He has since been to four world championships, one Olympic Games, 2 Commonwealth games and 1 Pan American games. So he is officially a Cayman Celebrity…. 🙂 Sorry Dave couldn’t resist bragging about you!

Ashley and her bridesmaids were getting ready right beside the ocean so when I got there they all wanted to go for a quick paddle (who doesn’t want to do that before they get married). Ashley then sent over a little note to David that said “Lucky to be in love”. Since David loved taking pictures all over the island(dripping with sarcasm here) we grabbed the whole bridal party and headed to Camana Bay Island for some fun shots and then to Georgetown dock. The ceremony itself was lovely AND even though the bride and groom did their photos before…. yep….David cried…You gotta love these two!!!!

How did he pop the question?
We were on our way from Los Angeles to Australia for vacation. David proposed a couple hours before landing in Sydney on our way to Cairns. He had everyone in on the proposal from my family, Quantas Agents, flight attendants and our friends in Australia. It was a trip of a lifetime!

What was your favorite moment(s) from the wedding?
The ceremony. Pastor Randy was amazing and I loved saying our vows with the waves crashing in the background.

How would you describe your overall wedding experience?
Amazing. I expected a fun party. Everything exceeded our expectations. It was the best day ever! Our friends and family worked so hard to make sure everything was perfect.

What advice would you offer to other couples planning a destination wedding?
Make sure you have someone you can trust to help you find the right vendors and keep on schedule. We were lucky enough to have our friend, Sara Mackay, who help us with those things and more!!

Tell me about your dress. Where did you find it, how did you choose it, how did you know it was the one?
I had a certain idea of what I wanted for a dress. I was looking for something with a vintage theme. We went to Pebbles a bridal boutique in Woodland Hills. The dresses were very pretty, but none had the wow factor. Tracy, our sales assistant, brought out one last dress she liked, but a different look. That was the dress! Simple and elegant.

How was your experience taking photos/working with me on your wedding day?
We all had a blast working with Rebecca! She even made it fun for my husband, who hates having his picture taken. Our pictures were relaxed natural and easy. The pictures came out incredible!

Did you see each other before the wedding? If not, did you like waiting or would you have rather done it differently? Tell me why or why not!
Rebecca set up a reveal before the wedding and we loved it! I was so happy to take a lot of the pictures before and have a special moment with my husband beforehand.

We love to hear about vendors you love. List any vendors here and feel free to share your experience. Be sure to include the name of the vendor, their profession, city/state, site or Facebook page and how your experience was!
Lori-Ann (the Cake Shop) is an artist! He cake was stunning!
Dora from Celebrations did our flowers and was great. I told her my ideas and she was responsible and organized.

What’s one piece of advice you would give to other couples for planning their wedding?
Enjoy it! Don’t stress about the details.
