Lisa and Mike – Married Surfers Beach South Sound

April 5, 2014

Lisa and Mike have an incredible story… but when I first met them I took them for desert at Morgans Harbour to chat about their wedding, we ended up staying for hours and chatting and learning about how they met and you cannot help falling in love with these guys. I guess when they say that two people are meant to be together…. well that is the truth. Mike is so in love with Lisa he had her name tattooed on his hand the day before the wedding 🙂 Lisa is obviously madly in love with Mike she just looks at him and laughs as they tell all their stories. Then comes…. GOTHAM… well Gotham is their ‘baby’ yes their doggy, that couldn’t come to the wedding. They are so in love with this doggy Lisa has him tattooed on her back! I just couldn’t wait to showcase their photos because they are both just so full of love and passion and fun!

Here is their story….

Mike and I have been the best of friends for 28 years. We met in 1986 at an arcade and he pursued me for a very long time. We stayed in touch all these years even with him moving to S. Carolina. I had a major break up and he came up to console me and never left. We dated since 2008 and on March 6- it was the day we were both waiting for for a very long time. Some say they married their best friends, but in this case, we REALLY did. He is my everything. He wanted me to have everything I had ever dreamed of in a wedding as a little girl and he made sure he did everything possible to make this special day be all about us. He became my wedding party, as well as my bridesmaid. He left nothing out including making sure I had something old, new, borrowed, and blue, and all the little gifts you normally receive from a batchelorette party.
We planned this ceremony in less than 2 weeks and he knew I really wanted a specific vail. I came home one night, and he was at our table with glue, tweezers, and a bag of crystals- he made my vail by hand! I could not have loved him any more at that moment. I still cry every time I think of that moment. That vail will stay with me forever.
We chose Cayman as our wedding site because I have always had a love for the white sands and beaches. The beach is where he lived, where we grew up, and where we go when life gets a little crazy. It was a beautiful island with endless sites for ceremonies and the best choice for an intimate setting of just the two of us. Our travels here were quite the story and a long bumpy road but this was about us and how we wanted to celebrate. We wanted to capture the true meaning of “Love” and I also knew that Rebecca was the one who would be able to capture these emotions in photos.
My life was so enriched in one week. Rebecca walked into the lobby a few days before the ceremony and walked into our hearts. In short, we gained a long-lasting friendship. She wore many hats for the wedding – her actions, kindness and talent brought me a maid of honor, a witness, confidant, and dear friend, as well as the most talented photographer on the island! I am one lucky girl!
We came across an awesome, gnarly tree that had been destroyed by Hurricane Ivan and both Mike and I felt compelled to have our wedding photo taken on it. It did not matter that I had my wedding dress on. I was up that tree before Rebecca could get a shot of me climbing and she could not believe that I scrambled up there without a bat of an eye. Every picture tells a story, and these particular ones speaks more than one tale.
The trash the dress photoshoot was an added bonus. It was the most surreal, magical moment of the week. Leave it to Rebecca to coax me to jump off the cliff by volunteering to jump in first. There was no doubt after that I would be diving in right after her. All the locations we were taken to felt like they were meant just for us. It brought out our personalities and our inner-children, all the while Rebecca being able to capture these priceless moments. It was as if she knew us for the same 28 years!
this was an event that was 28 years in the making and we were honored to be able to share it with Rebecca through her eyes, her heart, and her lens. It was a day we will never forget when two hearts sighed as they became one and Rebecca stood by our sides, listened, heard these hearts, and documented it in photos.
My gratitude for Rebecca was so profound. The heart she puts into each couple and their special day is mind-blowing. The most beautiful soul I have been so lucky to have come across to date.
We hope we have touched you as much as you have with us. We will always have you close in our hearts.

Lisa & Mike

One thing that Lisa was adamant about was that she wanted to trash the dress. She wanted to jump off Smith’s Cove, BUT when we got there and she looked down, she quickly had a change of heart. I told her that she didn’t have to do and we could do lots of other photos, but she was so upset she wanted so badly to do this. It is a bit scary when you are up there so I asked Lisa “would you feel better if you saw me jump off?” and of course Lisa said yes. (note to self… always wear a bathing suit in case you have to jump in the sea). SO as I jumped in Mike made sure he took a photo of me, I wanted them to see if you jumped up high you look really high in the photo. Okay so very embarrassing 🙂 hahahhahahaha thanks Mike, great shot!So Lisa did jump and did a great job of that, but their personalities are just oozing with fun so they wanted to go back up again and I just LOVE this shot. Mike pretending to ‘boot’ her off the cliff!!! The beach had loads of people on it and in the water waiting to see what would happen. The cheers that you heard were incredible and just added to the whole experience for these guys. Tourists snapped shots of them as the did this and then showed them as they got to the beach. It was so great. After we got in the car we went and celebrated and got a Pattie at the gas station… thanks for that also Mike and Lisa!

Rebecca, the video is outstanding. If you can cry every time you view your wedding pictures, you know you had the best photographer! The tree one is still my favorite. Stunning and one of a kind. I hope to see in the future someone else love the photo so much, they chose to have a photo on the same location.
We are over the moon with all our photos
