Caribbean Wedding Photography – Harbour Island

March 29, 2011

I had the amazing privilege to shoot a gorgeous wedding in Harbour Island, Bahamas. Sarah and John researched Caribbean Wedding Photographers and decided that we fit best to tell their story. So we hopped on a plane to Miami, hopped on another plane to Grand Bahamas and then again to Eleuthera and finally a water taxi to Harbour Island. There are no cars on Harbour Island? Really…. So we hired a Golf Cart and joined this amazing family for the beginning of an amazing weekend. Sarah and John were staying at Ocean View Club and were under the amazing care of Ben Simmons. I cannot say enough about how Sarah and John and their family welcomed Gary and I and were so easy to shoot because of their relaxed and laid back attitude that continued through the whole weekend. This is one of my favourite shots as we were driving around, this old garage door painted so vibrantly and yes they were game to just sit on the tarmac to “get the shot”.

Sarah made sure she had her Jimmy Choo shoes and I couldnt resist hanging them from this awesome carving. The ceilings and floors were all wood and everything is painted so colourful.

Okay so like I said they were pretty much game for everything. To get the jumping shot I had to get in the water completely up to my waist! It was ‘refreshing” 🙂

The bridesmaids bouquets were cut from the tree that morning and wrapped in matching linen cloth. So simple but so elegant!

The church was so quaint and the trees everywhere were amazing!

This is really how we got around. Except the bride and groom had a “Just Married” sign, complete with coconuts.

That night after the dinner, they walked down the steps to the beach where Ben and his team set up an incredible beach bonfire. They had made a path out of paper bags filled with sand and tea lights. The bonfire was huge and when the music and dancing started everyone was in amazement as the sky was filled with stars.

I love this shot! They were such good sports!

Okay this was brilliant. We waited a little for the birds to land and then Sarah and John just took off running and the birds were an amazing backdrop.

Rebecca, you are real inspiration. Greetings from Riviera Maya, Mexico. Shall you be interested in working with Arenika as the source and venues for hosting beach weddings on the coast of Caribbean, please feel free to contact anytime.

Rebecca – You and your husband are AMAZING! You went waist deep into water to get the best angle AND had another pair of pants just in case! You pulled flowers off of trees to sprinkle them in just the right places! While we ate dinner, you put together a slideshow of the pictures you had taken so far and set your computer up in the sand so everyone could enjoy! You spent the day before the wedding driving around the island to hunt down the best places for pictures! You spent the weeks before the wedding working with me to ensure that I could get you to such a small island! And on the big day, you brought us to truly fun places for photos and told hysterical jokes throughout! Your kindness, enthusiasm, and gentle nature were infectious. You are EXACTLY what a bride needs on her wedding day. I never thought I’d feel comfortable being followed around by a photographer, but I ended up loving it because of the energy you brought. And it wasn’t just me who felt that way. My guests could not stop raving about you.

Can we do it again? Because seriously, my husband and I want to hang out with you two again!

HI Mary,
thank you so much, so lovely to hear from you. Please don’t worry we were fine in our place. We didn’t stay in it long just to sleep and then we were golf-carting all over the island! What fun eh! Congrats on the babies. Maybe see you for another family wedding 🙂 !
take care

Oh, thank you, Rebecca! What a beautiful story you tell about John & Sarah’s wedding event. I hope your business is doing well. And thank you for your kind words about our families. I know we all left Harbour Island with fond memories of you and your husband. It was a pleasure working with you. My only regret was not knowing where you were staying and not getting you into a better place. You always had a smile on your face. What a gift you are! …to your family. …to your clients …and to all of us at John & Sarah’s wedding. Thank you!
Kindest Regards,
Mary Sticklen

P.S. We have 2 more grandchildren since the wedding. Total of 5 now! …and congrats to your sister on her gorgeous baby!
