Zero- Elopement-just the two of us

We had a very short engagement, so I didn’t have much time. I ordered several dresses from BHLDN to try and my dress that I chose was my favorite by far! I knew that I wanted a simple and classy dress, but I also didn’t want a heavy dress or a long train for getting married in Grand Cayman. I modeled the dresses for my sister and my two daughters. They all voted on each dress and it was unanimous on which one everyone loved! My dress was perfect and I felt beautiful! Given the windy conditions, the flowing dress and train could not have been more perfect for photos.

We initially met as chaperones on a school camp trip for his son and my daughter. They were in the same class, but we had never met each other. We were paired together to chaperone 12, 11/12 year old boys and girls. David was not a Realtor at the time, and a few weeks after camp, asked me to show him a home he was interested in purchasing. I helped him buy an amazing home on 12 acres for him and his two children. We became friends through the process and in late fall, we began dating. Fast forward and now we are a family of four children and four dogs!

David took me to Marco Island, Florida for Labor Day weekend. He had planned to propose over a nice dinner on our first evening, but due to weather, we were stuck on our plane on the runway for over 4 hours and missed dinner. The next morning, as we had breakfast on our balcony, David proposed!

David- I wasn’t nervous because I was definitely excited and had known Kara was who I wanted to be with and was looking forward to starting the next chapter.
Kara- I wasn’t nervous at all, but I was very disappointed that it rained the entire day of our wedding. I kept praying the rain would stop so that we could get married on the beach as planned. Throughout the day, David kept telling me that it was all ok and what mattered was that we were going to be married rain or shine- our marriage is what was important. I knew he was right, but I had my heart set on the beach. When we had our first look and David turned around and we saw eachother, we both teared up and I knew the rain could not really put a damper on our wedding day. I was marrying my best friend and that’s all that mattered.

The staff at the Seafire Kimpton was amazing. I would highly recommend them to anyone wanting to get married in Grand Cayman. They made us feel very special on our wedding day and throughout our entire stay. The resort is absolutely gorgeous and first class.

David-My favorite part was reading our personal letters we had written to each other over an intimate, seven-course candlelight dinner after our ceremony. The Kimpton Seafire was so very accommodating and allowed us to use a balcony overlooking the beach/ocean due to the rain. Although it was not what we had planned, it was honestly very romantic. We stood face to face with the rain streaming and the wind roaring while we said our vows. It was just the two of us and could not have been more special and meaningful. I loved our time together reading our letters we had written to each other as well.

We did not want a big wedding and wanted an intimate setting. As I said earlier, it may not have turned out exactly as planned (due to the rain), but it was romantic and it was a very sweet time. The Kimpton Seafire staff treated us like royalty, Angela from Celebrations was very kind, and of course, our fabulous photographer, Rebecca, helped to make our wedding day amazing for us.

Choose Rebecca Davidson!! This is a fun part of our wedding planning: David and I had separately been researching photographers in Grand Cayman. I kept coming back to Rebecca because I fell in love with her photos and style. One evening, I called David and said, “I just sent you a link to a photographer I love.” He said, “I just sent your a link to a photographer. Who is the one you sent?” I told him Rebecca Davidson and he answered, “I just sent you the link to her website!” Now if that isn’t confirmation, I don’t know what is! Thank goodness that Rebecca was available on our wedding day! We knew that we could trust her to capture beautiful images on our wedding day. From the instant we met her, we felt a connection and she was so fun!
Rebecca: Thank you guys!!! love you for this…. made my day!!!!

The first song we danced to was “Nothing Fancy” by Dave Barnes. He is one of our favorite artists and if you aren’t familiar with him, check him out! We also had a fun dance to Earth, Wind, and Fire’s “September.”

Rebecca was fantastic! We had only communicated via email, but as soon as she walked into my hotel room, I felt like I was with a friend. Rebecca is an amazing photographer and is kind, fun, and has a great energy. She puts you at ease. Due to the rain, we were unable to get any photos outside on our actual wedding day. Rebecca came back the following day so the we could shoot some photos outside. We had crazy winds the following day, but she was creative through all of the challenges. Rebecca was very accommodating and has such a gift. Love her so much!
