Cayman Islands Wedding | Grand Old House | Katie and Joe

June 2, 2015

Katie and Joe were surrounded by friends and family and fun and laughter from the minute I got to their villa to photograph the getting ready. Katie had her mum by her side helping her into her dress and the girls all looking amazing as they were getting their hair finished by Jackie Soriano. The details from the welcome bags, the koozie’s, the belt for the dress to the guys blue tuxedos were amazing. We headed off for some fun photos before the ceremony and even though Joe saw Katie before the wedding, which allowed us to get some fun relaxed photos in great light, Joe still teared up as he saw her walking down the aisle with her father. I could barely pull myself away from the incredible dancing after the dinner as the whole party didn’t leave the dance floor all night. Katie’s mum confiscated my camera off me and started snapping pictures as I got a chance to dance and chill with the guests for a few minutes…. now hows that for a wedding? AWESOME!!!

What advice would you offer other couples planning a destination wedding?

Hire a wedding coordinator if you can and don’t sweat the small stuff. Having a wedding in such a beautiful setting left me little to worry about when it came to décor. Mary Ann and Andrea at Celebrations were amazing to work with and I trusted their taste completely. I also stalked Rebecca’s blog for inspiration from other Cayman weddings- I found Jackie for my hair from photos of other brides on the blog!
How was your experience taking photos/working with me on your wedding day?

Working with Rebecca was awesome. I actually planned my wedding date around her availability. I saw some of her photos on pinterest in the early stages of picking a destination and knew that if I were to get married in Grand Cayman she had to be the photographer. She was very helpful with advice on which vendors to use and has worked with just about everyone on the island. Rebecca went above and beyond, and its obvious she loves what she does. Every vendor I worked with knew and loved her, which made everything so easy!

Having a destination wedding was the best- it lasted 5 days instead of just one! We were really able to relax and enjoy our time with all of our wedding guests the entire week. It was so great having so many events leading up to the actual wedding date- all of our friends and family had really gotten to know each other and the dance floor pics definitely show just how much fun we all had together!

We did- it was nice to be able to have a private moment to see each other before. We had plenty of time to take some great shots without having to miss any part of the cocktail hour or reception. The pictures of us on the dock during our first look are some of my favorite shots. The ceremony was still very special, and the walk down the aisle still gave me butterflies the whole time!

Again, I think just having everyone on vacation for the few days leading up to the wedding just brings people together. It was great seeing my two best friends from grade school mixed with my best friends in Chicago, mixed with Joe’s buddies. We had all been having so much fun on the island together that during the photos everyone was very comfortable with each other and were able to joke around and get silly for a few of the photos and nothing seemed staged or awkward.
