In the summer of 2014 my sister suggested a trip to Grand Cayman. We were originally going to go to St. Marten, but we canceled because they had a bad outbreak of chikungunya. In Cayman, we stayed at the Comfort Inn and Suites. Across the street was a bar called Coconut Joe’s that we would go to every night. We met a lot of people there, including Harlan. On August 17, 2014 we were waiting at Coconut Joe’s for some friends, who never showed up. Harlan was there and saw that we were alone, so he decided to call his friend and tell him to stop by the bar because there are pretty girls there. His friend was tired because he just got back from a trip, but he stopped by. That is the moment that I met Adam and when are story begins. At the end of the night we exchanged contact details, and from then, we began a friendship that would later bloom in to the wonderful love relationship, that is shared by persons who grow deeply in love with each other.

In August 2016 we were going on a trip to Disneyland with my brother, sister, and my cousin and his wife. With the help of my cousin Kornel, Adam planned the perfect proposal for me. About midday we went back to the hotel to change. Adam told me he booked a caricature drawing session because it was something he always wanted to do. We went back to Disneyland near Pirates of the Caribbean and sat down to have our picture drawn. When the artist was finished he told us to walk around and look at the picture. At this point we had attracted a crowd of onlookers. When I looked at the picture it was of Adam down on one knee and said “will you marry me.” It was the sweetest thing ever and he got down on one knee and asked me in Polish to be his wife. Everyone started cheering and a cast member brought us buttons that said Happily Ever After. The moment was magical.

I did not enjoy shopping for a dress because I was disappointed at most of the stores. I went with my mom to a store in the Bay Area and the mannequin had a gorgeous ball gown. Before letting me try it on the assistant gave other ball gowns, but I wanted the one on the mannequin. The dress was beautiful, but the saleslady was pressuring me into purchasing the dress right away and I wasn’t comfortable with that. I wanted my sister to see the dress before I bought it. I was done wedding dress shopping, but my sister convinced me to go with her to Sacramento the next day to Miosa Bridal. I was surprised when the consultant brought out the exact same ball gown I tried on the day before. I loved it again. My sister was able to see me in it and she approved. The consultant said that if I purchased that same day I would get 15% off. I thought it was meant to be because it was the same dress I loved when I went with my mom the day before and I said yes to the dress!

Yes we did first look pictures and we loved having that time together before the ceremony. I didn’t wear my veil during the first look, so Adam still had a small surprise.

I ordered favors and cute decorations online at Oriental Trading and Exclusively Weddings. They have everything you can think of online.

Adam was nervous about the weather and the bride keeping her sanity. The morning started with heavy clouds, but it cleared up to be some of the nicest weather that week. We did have a few mishaps. One mishap was when a raspberry cocktail spilled on my dress during cocktail hour, but my family came to the rescue and I didn’t let it ruin my day. We focused on the things that did go well on our wedding day and didn’t let anything ruin it.

Thoroughly discuss the guest list and timeline of events. Only invite people who are closest to you. Always have a plan B for an outdoor ceremony. Try to enjoy the planning it goes by so fast. Expect some things to go wrong, but don’t let it affect you and enjoy your wedding.

Adam felt overjoyed and nervous. He held back tears of happiness. I felt anxious and excited before I walked down the aisle and I was calm during the vows.

Adam’s favorite memory was seeing Martha walk down the aisle in her dress and veil. Martha’s favorite moment was being announced as husband and wife for the first time. We also loved dancing with Martha’s family and celebrating with them at the end of the night.

It was totally awesome and I would do it a hundred times over. The wedding was beautiful and I can’t believe it was mine. It was over too soon.

Look up inspiration pictures to have an idea of what you want.

Plan well ahead and keep positive. Marry a local who will do anything for your dream wedding to come true. Adam did so much for the wedding and I can’t imagine planning it without him. Also, hire a wedding planner. Juliette was a wedding fairy-tale godmother.

The groom lives in the Cayman Islands so by default got to have a destination wedding.
