Cayman Islands Grand Old House Gatsby Themed Wedding | John + Kristen

March 15, 2015

It was such a pleasure to photograph Kristen and Johns wedding at the beautiful Grand Old House, Kristen’s attention to detail was incredible. I was thrilled when I saw how everything started to come together during the getting ready, as her sisters helped put on her custom made head band which was so unique and different. We headed off for some photos around the island and met back up with the bridal party at Camana Bay for some really fun photos with some over sized balloons. Then landed at Grand Old House for the ceremony, some emotional speeches, great food, awesome cake and a great party ending in wish lanterns.

We lived in the same dormitory Freshmen year of college at Ohio University.

What was your favorite moment(s) from the wedding?
The first look was amazing. There os so much anticipation for the wedding and all the planning that had been done. I had butterflies in my stomach the whole walk towards him, and when he turned around I forgot about everything else. We were both so overjoyed.

What’s one piece of advice you would give to other couples for planning their wedding?
Stay calm, take your time, don’t worry about minor details, and enjoy every minute because it flies by!

How long have you been together?
7 years

What photography-related advice would you offer to a couple?
Be yourself. Laugh, smile, and take in every minute.

Tell me about your dress. Where did you find it, how did you choose it, how did you know it was the one?
I found the dress with my Mom and sister in August at Mira Couture in Chicago, IL. I knew I wanted something very different, and I was a bit nervous that I might not find it. Luckily, the boutique had many different styles. There was a small section of 1920’s-esque Gatsby styled dresses, and I knew that’s what I wanted. It was the first dress that I tried on. After that, it was great food and champagne to celebrate!

How would you describe your overall wedding experience?
More than we ever could have dreamed of. From Desiree and the Grand Old House, to the photography with Rebecca, and being surrounded by everyone we love, everything was perfect. It was the best day of our lives.

Did you find a store/site that had everything you were looking for? Use this space to talk about favorite shops. You can include where you got your dress, sites you got your veils/décor/accessories, etc.
Mira Couture: Chicago, IL – The staff was so kind and helpful during my dress search and fittings.
EnrichbyMillie via Etsy – my headpiece. Great service, easy to work with, beautiful products.

What were you most anxious, nervous or fearful about regarding your wedding day and what was the outcome?
I was nervous about not being ready on time. I decided to do my own makeup and hair, which added a bit of stress to the day. My sisters and sister-in-law were all there to help, and everything turned out great.
