Nickolas and Aimée Westin Wedding on Seven Mile Beach was stunning. Aimée walked on her dads arm across the lawn to Nickolas as he waited for her

How did you two meet?

We met in the departure lounge of Owen Roberts International Airport on 23 January 2010. Aimee was living in California and Nick in Miami, and we both were visiting Cayman (home) at the same time for very different reasons. Aimée was home due to the recent loss of her brother and Nick was home for to receive an award on National Heroes Day. The night before we were flying out of Cayman, we were at a mutual friend’s house and saw each other but weren’t introduced. The next morning, we saw each other in the airport and Nick walked up to speak to Aimee as she got up to board her flight. He introduced himself and we chatted for a total of maybe 2 minutes and in that time Aimée made a comment about sitting at the back of the plane. Nick, in his sneaky ways, caught a glimpse of her boarding pass. After she boarded he wrote a note on a piece of paper with his phone number and email address and gave it to the flight attendant to then give to her. Needless to say, she contacted him and we’ve spoken every day since then!

How did he pop the question?

We were on a week-long vacation at The Atlantis in the Bahamas with Nick’s family. We had an adventure filled day of boating around the cays, seeing the swimming pigs, having our boat break down at Staniel Cay, and chartering a 9-seater plane back to Paradise Island. The next day, Nick convinced the entire family to go exploring to the Versailles Gardens & French Cloister. During the walk, Nick gave his Aunt Theresa and cousin Zachary the signal (they were in on the surprise!). He looked at Aimée and said “Are you ready for one more adventure?” and then got down on one knee. Aimee was in complete disbelief and kept saying “Are you serious? You’re not serious!” but finally accepted the proposal with many happy tears and smiles.

Did you see each other before the wedding?

We did see each other before the wedding. We originally wanted to be more “traditional” and wait until it was time to walk down the aisle before seeing each other, but took the advice of Rebecca to do a first look. We are SO happy we took her advice. It was unreal seeing each other, just the two of us, and allow all of the emotions to flow naturally without thinking about our 200 guests looking at us.

Were there any unique items in your wedding that you would like to highlight?

We decided to reserve a chair in the front row at the ceremony for those we have loved, and lost, and miss dearly. We both felt strongly about having something small at the wedding to honor the memory of those who are important to us that couldn’t be there, but will forever be in our hearts.

How did you feel just before you walked down the aisle?

Sheer happiness. We had both been talking about what our wedding day would look like for years. It was just so unreal that it was all actually happening!

What made you choose your venue for your wedding?

Aimee wanted a beach wedding but didn’t want to walk in the sand with her dress and shoes. The Governor’s Lawn at the Westin was the perfect location because we had the view of the sea without having to be on the sand, although we chose to go in the sand after the ceremony for photos anyway.

What was memorable about taking pictures with your bridal party?

The giggles! We were all just having a blast laughing, cracking jokes and of course popping bubbly.

What were you most anxious, nervous or fearful about regarding your wedding day and what was the outcome?

The only thing we were a little concerned about was potential rain, as it rained the entire day before the wedding. We completely lucked out and had the most gorgeous weather for the entire day. The sunset was to die for as well!

What was one of your most favourite moments from the wedding?

The most amazing moment was when Nickolas surprised me and sang to me! I had no idea he was going to do anything off script, or that he had been practicing a song for weeks. I really didn’t cry throughout the entire wedding day, but in that unexpected moment I couldn’t help but to let the floodgates open.
