Cute Story

Our first trip to Europe together we went to Spain and Portugal for 10 days during my Easter Break while in law school. We made a plan to see the huge Good Friday parade in Sevilla. After spending hours walking around visiting different tourist attractions hoping to see the parade and not finding the parade we gave up, found a restaurant and finally sat down after 6 hours of walking. As we walked back to our car around 8pm we accidentally ran into the Good Friday parade! It was beautiful and we were so happy we ended up stumbling on the parade after we had given up. Just goes to show that if something is meant to be it will be.

Tell us about your dress

Beautiful lace back, ballgown dress with full cathedral style lace veil. I found a dress by the same designer on the Leggenda Bridal website. Due to Covid I could not go to Miami to try on wedding dresses but my mom who was traveling to Miami on business was able to attend Leggenda Bridal to try on wedding dresses on my behalf. I attended the appointment via WhatsApp and watched my mom try on wedding dresses I liked from their website. When she tried on one of the dresses designed by Christina Wu, the stylist helping her said she another dress by the same designer that was brand new and she thought would be beautiful. My mom tried on that dress and came out in it with the cathedral veil and I knew that was the dress.

How did you feel walking down the aisle

When I saw Josh standing at the gazebo I started tearing, I felt happy, nervous and excited all at once.

Something cute about your wedding

We had two priests marry us and my veil kept getting caught on the concrete staircase and pathway as I walked down the aisle.

When Josh and I were facing each other on the “alter” and I could see tears in his eyes during the wedding ceremony and I knew I was holding back my own tears too.

When we actually got to have fun! Towards the end of the wedding reception when we were able to speak with our overseas family via Zoom and when we were able to go on the dance floor and dance with our family and friends.

I especially loved getting a solo dance with the oldest of our flower girls who told me that it was the best time she ever had.

How did he pop the question

“He surprised me. He told me we were going out somewhere nice for dinner after work one evening. He then got my mom to call me and say she needed the car dropped off to the church parking lot before we went to dinner because she had a meeting at church. I remember being so annoyed that this would make us late for dinner. My mom told me, I would have to go up to the church hall to give her the car keys. When we got to the church, I parked the car and told Josh I’d be back in a minute so we could go to dinner. I went up the church office and when I opened the door, there was my mom, my sister, our priest (Rev Mary), Karen, Clement , Ms Janet and a couple other family friends. I smiled but was very confused until I turned around and saw Josh standing behind me in the doorway. He came in and took my hands and I could not stop smiling as I started to realize what was happening. It’s still all a bit of blur but I remember him saying something about us making each other better and happier and then he pulled out the ring and asked me if I would marry him. I said yes! We hugged and smiled and Josh went place the ring on my finger but my mom and priest quickly explained that as Anglicans we don’t put the ring on until after the ring blessing ceremony. We went down to the church and in a very hot church (thanks to the broken AC) the ring was blessed, promises were made and the ring was placed on my ring finger. Afterwards my surrogate grandma (Granny V) read a beautiful poem she wrote for us. Then with us and our witnesses we all went to Casanova (where Josh and I had our first date) for an engagement celebration dinner. It was beautiful and perfect and not at all what I expected but so incredibly meaningful since Josh is not religious but loved me enough to propose to me in my church with my religious traditions and in front of family.”

Did you see each other before the wedding

No, we did not. I am a traditionalist and did not want the first look and Josh agreed. We would not have done it differently, we would not have changed our decision. The first time I saw him in his tux as he walked his mom down the aisle and stood at the “alter” brought tear to my eyes. I felt so incredibly in love with Josh. It was like floating on a cloud. This was the moment that the wedding and the fact that this was the beginning of our lives together truly felt real and I just felt overwhelmed with joy.

How was your experience with your wedding planner

In a word, amazing! Ashley and Talisa were outstanding! They were on top of everything all the time. They thought of things that had not crossed my mind and were quick to resolve any issues that came up and reorganize the entire plan for the wedding from an inside to outside wedding at the last minute.
